With the conferral of my PhD in July, my time as a PhD student at the University of New South Wales is coming to an end. So, I am now looking for an ongoing academic home.
I am not seeking a job. I have one of those and I love it. I am looking for an intellectual berth. On a basic level, I would like to continue to be able to access academic papers through a university library. Perhaps more significantly, although I have no specific plans, I would like to continue to use the model I developed for my PhD to conduct more small randomised controlled trials. And perhaps I can be involved in the development of future PhD students.
To this end, I would like to secure an unpaid research associate position in an Australian university. I feel like I have something to offer in this capacity.
This is not without risk to an institution taking me on. At one point, a group of overly-sensitive academics complained to my university about a blog post I wrote. The complaint was not upheld because, in my view, it was baseless. However, anyone offering me a role will need to be prepared for a repeat of this kind of silencing tactic. They will require a bit of backbone — not much, but backbone is in short supply.
