All is the crunch of acorns under feet in my part of Ballarat. No, oak trees are not native to Australia, but the early planners of Ballarat’s cityscape decided that tree-lined streets would keep the harsh summer sun in check and they chose the oak tree for this job. For some reason or other, the golden light and the scents on the breeze take me back to a time when my girls were little and when collecting acorns at the park with Dad was a fun game.
