Some teachers define themselves by anything other than the act of teaching. They care. They organise activities. They see their career advancing in the direction of ‘pastoral care’. Some view teaching as being all about relationships and then offer their ability to talk to teenagers in a reasonably engaging way as evidence they are a good teacher.

This post is not for those teachers. This post is for those who equate being a good teacher with being an effective one. Effectiveness must be (imperfectly) measured and so a commitment to effectiveness also implies a commitment to looking at the data produced by such measures. It is not for everyone.

However, there are a group of us who are up for this. We want to know our impact and we want to improve. If you are in that category, I have a few thoughts that may be of help.
